Efforts to change the public’s mindset regarding household waste management continue to be stepped up at the grassroots level. Together with academics and students from UGM’s Community Service Program (KKN-PPM), the Girli Padukuhan Santren Community (KGPS) intensified outreach on the “Mijongan” (Mikrobio Jogangan) system to residents along the banks of the Pelang River in Caturtunggal, Depok, Sleman, on Sunday (July 19, 2026).
The UGM Gemercik Belik 2026 KKN-PPM Student Team once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting improvements in public health services by participating in a health screening program for people with diabetes mellitus (DM) at the Belik Community Health Center in Pemalang Regency. The event, attended by dozens of patients, not only provided health checkups but also comprehensive education to help patients manage their condition in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3—Good Health and Well-being. The program, held on Saturday (July 18, 2026) from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. WIB, marked the second activity organized by the UGM Gemercik Belik 2026 Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) team at the Belik Community Health Center.
The cocoa supply chain in Kuwum Village was the focus of a community service project by UGM KKN-PPM students, who shared the recommendations from a policy brief with the Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes) and the Cocoa Farmers’ Group.
During the event, the students also distributed a guidebook on cocoa processing—from farm to value-added products—as part of an effort to strengthen the management of the village’s flagship commodity.
The Directorate of Community Service of Universitas Gadjah Mada (DPkM UGM) continues to strengthen its commitment to supporting the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the organization of the 37th UMKM Class Series. Held at the Integrated Business Service Center (PLUT) Building in Kulon Progo Regency, the program was conducted in collaboration with the Kulon Progo Office of Industry, Cooperatives, and MSMEs (DisperinkopUKM) under the theme “MSME Governance and Marketing Strategies.”
On a bright morning on April 15, 2026, students participating in the first phase of the 2026 Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) in Bangunkerto Village, Turi Subdistrict, joined the women of the Farmers’ Women Group (KWT) of RT 02 in Kendal Hamlet. The event was a weekly activity regularly organized by the women of KWT RT 02. Upon closer examination, this activity is a manifestation of efforts to achieve SDG 5: gender equality. The community may not realize it, but what they are doing goes beyond what they consider ordinary.
Behind the lush greenery and cool climate of the Turi area in Sleman, the issue of trash remains a challenge that is gradually marring the environment and the village’s tourist attractions. Plastic bottles scattered around public areas not only mar the scenery but also highlight the ongoing need to strengthen waste management practices amid increasing community and tourist activity. If left unchecked, piles of plastic waste can reduce visitor comfort, damage the ecosystem around the reservoir, and even threaten the sustainability of the local tourism potential that is a source of pride for the community. Driven by these concerns, students from the Community Service Learning–Community Empowerment Program (KKN-PPM) collaborated with the youth of Turi Village to introduce a simple yet meaningful innovation as a first step toward building a cleaner and more environmentally conscious tourism culture.
Students from the KKN-PPM Turi Berdikari Unit, in collaboration with the youth community of Turi Village, Donokerto Subdistrict, Turi District, Sleman Regency, are participating in a community empowerment activity focused on waste management through the creation of fish-shaped “Dropbox” bins in the Widuri Reservoir area. The activity, which has been held since May 4 for one week, aims to raise awareness among the community and tourists regarding the importance of plastic waste management while supporting the development of cleaner and more eco-friendly tourism.
Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again demonstrates its commitment to community service thru the Student Community Services – 2026 Sumatera Disaster Response (KKN – Peduli Bencana Sumatera 2026) program. This program is a tangible manifestation of UGM’s contribution in supporting the post-disaster recovery phase thru a multidisciplinary approach focused on the sectors of infrastructure, health, and education. This community service activity is carried out over 30 days from late January to early March 2026.
Students of Students Community Services – Universitas Gadjah Mada (KKN UGM) rolled out two flagship programs in Selomoyo Village, Kaliangkrik, Magelang, namely the construction of a waste incinerator and training in agricultural product processing. This effort was carried out as a solution to environmental problems as well as strengthening the economy of residents based on local potential.
Health services at the village level, such as integrated health service posts (Posyandu), often face obstacles, one of which is long queues when measuring height. Manual height measurements were not only time-consuming, but also produce suboptimal accuracy. In fact, for children, accurate and efficient height measurements are very important as a basis for monitoring growth and early detection of stunting. Inaccurate data can affect the assessment of children’s nutritional status and risk delaying intervention.
Ponjong Village continues to innovate in the development of tourism villages. Through Ponjong Tourism Village (Deswita), in collaboration with students of Students Community Services (KKN) – Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) , a new tourism package in the form of a bicycle tour called “MAMPIRRA” has been introduced.
