As a form of commitment to supporting the achievement of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) through the implementation of ESD (Education for Sustainable Development), the Directorate of Community Service at the University of Gadjah Mada as the coordinator of RCE Yogyakarta has the opportunity to attend the 1st ICTeEfS Managerial Meeting & Training Workshop with the theme ICT-Enabled In Enabled in -Service Training of Teachers to Address Education for Sustainability, in Johor, Malaysia. The meeting, which took place from 4 to 7 July, was a follow-up meeting of the ICTeEfS-Erasmus + Capacity Building for Higher Education Consortium Meeting held 4 months earlier as a form of initial coordination in Nicosia, Cyprus. In addition to Frederick University, the program coordinator, this meeting was also attended by 8 other universities from Indonesia, Malaysia, Greece, and Vietnam.
The big theme of this activity is ICT-enabled In-Service Training of Teachers to Address Education for Sustainability (ICTeEfS) namely the Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in order to support Education for Sustainable Development. The ICTeEfS activity is a program to contextualize ICTs in Education for Sustainable Development in order to fill the gaps that hamper policies in building sustainable communities both locally and nationally. For this reason, education-based universities such as Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, University of Crete, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Open University Malaysia, Indonesian University of Education, University of Social Sciences and Humanities of Vietnam, International University of Vietnam, and RCE Creete were targeted in this activity. They are expected to play a major role in inserting educational themes on sustainable development in related subjects through applicable teaching methodologies and curriculum. The hope, this can fill the gap between the knowledge that has been obtained by students in school with the problems they face in real life.
