The main objective of the General Echo Workshop is to get invited participants to understand the importance of integrating the concept of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into the academic curriculum and community services, due to they have recognized as influencers in their area of expertise. The workshop further aims as follows:
- Increase participants’ awareness of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as basic knowledge to achieve the objectives of the workshop.
- Introducing the concept of Education for Sustainable Development.
- Understanding the importance of integration of the ESD curriculum in higher education.
- Understand the importance of the concept of ESD in community service programs.
- Making an action plan to integrate the ESD curriculum in partner university.
- Developing an ongoing agreement to improve and apply the concept of ESD to every action at the university.
Expected Results from the Workshop:
The expected outcome of the workshop is to enhance all participants’ understanding of the importance of integrating the concept of Education for Sustainable Development into our academic curriculum. The United Nations has declared the 17 Sustainable Development Goals which is known as Global Goals. These goals are universal, invite for any action to the end of poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity, which expected to be achieved by 2030. However, to achieve SDGs requires government policy, private sector partnerships, civil society and citizens to ensure better plans for future generations.
Thus, we can see the urgency of our community to learn, to understand, and to work together in achieving the targets in the SDGs. The General Echo Workshop was designed to provide all participants with a basic understanding of Education for Sustainable Development because all the participants come from academic backgrounds. They are expected to embrace everything they get from workshops, transfers, and apply it in their institutions. The activity involved 35 lecturers, 25 vocational teachers. On this occasion, Universitas Gadjah Mada has the privilege as a host and facilitator.
