The Directorate of Community Service through DERU UGM sent a team on May 5-6, 2023, to distribute aid to the disaster-affected communities in Cianjur Regency, West Java. The disaster, which occurred six months ago on November 21, 2022, continues to deeply traumatize the community. Some residents in the affected areas are still living in makeshift tents. They are waiting for government stimulus assistance to rebuild their damaged homes. The distribution process to the community is still ongoing in stages.
The DERU team, consisting of four members, distributed aid in the form of school bags and stationery to students of SDN Karya Bakti located in Mangunkarta Village, Cugenang Sub-district. A total of 200 aid packages, donated by UGM for disaster relief, were received directly by the students of SDN Karya Bakti. Hopefully, this aid will inspire the children to return to school after spending several months in makeshift tent schools.
The Headmistress, Diah Pitaloka, stated that SDN Karya Bakti had the highest number of student casualties in Cugenang Sub-district, with 9 students from grades 1, 2, and 3. She expressed sincere gratitude to Gadjah Mada University for the assistance provided to the students of SDN Karya Bakti.
