Unoi Mandiri is an SME that specializes in instant medicinal herbs. It was established in 2017 by Unun Matoyah in Kiringan, Canden, Jetis, Bantul. Unoi Mandiri is not a legally recognized business yet. However, it is registered and has a Business Permit Number (NIB), trademark IPR, and an LPPOM MUI Halal certificate. The key raw materials used in this SME enterprise are ginger, red ginger, sand ginger, turmeric, curcuma, tamarind, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and sappan wood.
The herbs produced by Unoi Mandiri are in powder and granola to make it practical, easy, and effective. Unun Matoyah claims the advantage of the powder herbs produced is to eliminate the image of bitter herbs. Beside powder herbs, Unoi Mandiri also creates sour turmeric jam so that herbs can be consumed in a new way.
Initially, the herbs were produced in liquid traditionally. Then, after attending training, Unun Matoyah started to turn her products into instant herbs. She is the 3rd generation of the herbal forerunner in Kiringan. At least, there are 135 herbs compounder in Kiringan as the Herbal Tourism Village.
Unun Matoyah has joined and has been mentored by Directorate of Community Services (DOCS) UGM since 2020 when she became a participant in the III MSME National Business Meeting. As a result, Unun Matoyah received several benefits such as facilities from government agencies and numerous networks, improved marketing, increased turnover, and lots of inspiration from other SMEs. In this regard, Unun Matoyah expects assistance and facilitation related to improving the quality of processes and products in order to compete in a wider market as her products have been distributed to Australia and Taiwan by the diasporas.
As a result, DOCS UGM, in collaboration with the National Standardization Agency from Jakarta (BSN), made a visit to Unoi Mandiri to implement Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certifications.
